Pirogovo - Outdoor Museum of Ukrainian ArchitectureEESA students will visit the Museum of Ukrainian Architechture in Pirogovo near Kyiv. It is a very unique museum that was built as an actual village. When visitors walk onto the territory of Pirogovo, they are taken back in time to a 15th century Ukrainian village. Craftsmen dressed in traditional clothes are showcasing their talent of pottery and other crafts; and meals are served in a unique setting from centuries ago. This is the best way to experience the folklore, culture and long history of Ukraine. Pirogovo is a beautiful outdoor museum that exemplifies traditional Ukrainian lifestyles. It was founded in 1969, and contains over 300 pieces of folk architecture including houses, churches and mills that were brought from all parts of Ukraine and carefully reassembled. The museum illustrates each region’s beautiful and unique architecture, character, agricultural heritage, folk culture, and rural life. There are several cafes, restaurants, and souvenir shops located in the village. Visitors can try national cuisine and learn about traditional Ukrainian lifestyles. Pirogovo truly gives you the feel of how the life was in the 15th and 16th centuries in villages throughout Ukraine.
