Program OverviewWith the fall of the Soviet Union, nearly twenty new countries have entered the international market and political scene. Newly emerged democracies in Eastern Europe and Asia have started integration into global institutions. From these countries, Ukraine has been among the leaders in achieving economic freedom and establishing democracy. Study abroad students of EESA-Ukraine can learn firsthand about the process of this transition and its relation to the world affairs today. The unique focus of the program is on analyzing the relation between the past and current economical and political systems and their future influence in Ukraine, Europe and other parts of the world. Students will take two mandatory classes: Russian or Ukrainian language (placement test will be taken upon arrival) and History of Ukraine and its contemporary economic and political system. The other two classes may be chosen from a variety of courses available that best fit the interests and curriculum of students in their home institution. Each class is worth 3-4 credits with a standard 16-credit load per semester. Exciting academic field trips to Moscow, Kyiv and within the Kharkiv region enhance cultural immersion and compliment the material studied in the classroom. The EESA-Ukraine study abroad program is a great and exciting opportunity for students who are engaged in business, history, political science, international relations, Russian or Ukrainian, or have interest in world political systems, democratization process, economic transition and cultural studies. Very safe and comfortable housing together with extensive support network at the EESA Kharkiv Center provide all necessary accommodations for a successful and rewarding study abroad experience.
