Student lifeStudying abroad with EESA is about high-level academics, cultural immersion, feeling safe and welcome and having a great time! For many students, studying abroad is a turning point in their lives. Through this experience, students learn more about themselves, the world, and their place in it. Along the way, new friends are made across the globe, and for many people this friendship lasts a lifetime. At EESA, we are committed to making this experience the most fulfilling. Students are provided with all necessary accommodations to be successful and enjoy studying abroad in Kharkiv. Kharkiv’s status as an educational center provides for a large population of students, over 150,000. The city’s life is vibrant and energetic. After the academic work is done, there are plenty of entertainment options available. Concerts, music and movie festivals, sports championships, and other exciting events take place in the city throughout the year. Students enjoy bowling, rollerblading in a park, going to movies, skating at one of many ice arenas, watching a professional soccer game, seeing a theater, opera or a ballet performance, attending a concert, or going to the circus. Even skiing is an option at the city’s Pyatehatki hill in the winter. Kharkiv is considered a green city for its 110 parks with beautiful fountains. The two largest parks are located in the center of the city next door to the main Freedom Square and the Karazin University. On a nice day, many people spend some time with friends walking in a park or having a quick meal or a cup of coffee in one of many outdoor cafés. The gondola ride at the Gorky Amusement Park opens up great views of the city. In the evenings, you might see a free concert in one of the parks, listen to live music in one of the cafés/clubs; or simply enjoy the beauty of the water fountains that light up with different colors at. Ukrainians are considered one of the most hospitable nations in the world. Students will meet a lot of new people while studying in Kharkiv, some of them will become good friends for years to come. Ukrainian students often invite their new friends to their homes, where they have a meal and may meet their family. Hospitality is in every aspect of life in Ukraine. People in the street are always willing to help a foreigner or a visitor to the city. If you are a guest in somebody’s house, you will be offered the best meal and the best accommodations available. Most young Ukrainians speak English and are very eager to support your interest in their language and their culture as well as learn more about what it’s like living in the U.S. Interacting with locals is always a very rewarding experience for both parties. Our friendly staff at the EESA Center in Kharkiv will support you as you explore the city and the culture. They will help with any questions or arrangements. The Center is conveniently located at the Karazin University right in the center of the city and is equipped with computers with internet access and a lounge area for students’ use. |
